IN ENGLISH
Felted autumn leaves
The autumn has brought colder weather and fewer hours of daylight, but is also a season when it is easy to become inspired by the amazing array of colours in leaves. A walk with one of our dogs lead to an idea about wrist warmers, in the shape and colour of autumn leaves.
I made simple templates in the shape of a leaf, to get a contour to follow when laying out the wool. I used different shades of green and red merino and, on top of that, various embellishment fibres in different colours. Then I felted it all together, until it had shrunk down to a size suitable to wrap around a wrist.
I’m really pleased with the result, but haven’t gotten around to adding buttons and buttonholes yet. And that’s partly beacause I suddenly felt undecided about whether or not these should become wrist warmers. Perhaps they would look even better as a decoration on something else felted, such as a flap on a felted black bag…? Or perhaps I just need to felt some more autumn leaves… 🙂
Beautiful fall leaves! You could make a door wreath. Something I’ve been wanting to do on my list. But I do like the idea of the decoration on a black purse. I think you need to make more. 🙂
Yes! Many more – and in different sizes too! A door wreath of felted leaves is a really nice idea. 🙂
They are beatiful and yes, I could see them on a black purse! If you were brave enough to make them bigger, wouldn’t they make lovely cushions?
Many thanks! 🙂 Actually, sewed on to a black felted cushion would make them quite an eye catcher in our sofa. That’s a really good idea. They are about 19 cm x 28 cm (7,5 in x 11 in) and would fit nicely diagonally on a square cushion… 🙂
They are gorgeous, Zara 🙂 I like the leaves too (when I collect leaves, I forget about them, and find them brown and crumbled!) I like Lyn’s idea, you could make two huge ones, sew the edges and stuff to make a leaf shaped cushion!
Thanks for putting colour in my felting Zed! These leaves just wouldn’t be the same without all those embellishment fibres I got from you. A maple leaf cushion, in autumn colours, would be fun to make…. Perhaps even with a dash of orange in there… 😉
