Barnen hade aldrig sytt korsstygn tidigare, men fattade snabbt principen.
IN ENGLISH
Boards for riding bagdes with embroidery
Both my daughters take riding lessons at a riding school, where you can get riding badges for different levels of achievement. These badges obviously needed to be displayed somehow, and I thought that a framed piece of embroidery, with a horse motif, might be appropriate. I needed a small and simple embroidery pattern, and ended up drawing my own. I just simply traced a silhouette and put a cross in every square that was at least 50% inside the silhouette. That worked surprisingly well. If you squint your eyes, it looks like a horse. 😉
Neither of the girls had done any cross-stitch embroidery before, but very quickly understood the principle. I did help my 7-year-old with a few rows, but she did most of it on her own. My 11-year-old decided to use a different shade of blue for the mane on the horse head, and also drew and embroidered a frame around the motif. They spent most of New Year’s Day embroidering at the kitchen table, and were done by the evening. And I think they made really nice boards to display their riding badges on. 🙂
Wonderful, great job ! Be glad to have ‘normal’ kids instead of gamers etc.
Ha, ha! One of the reasons I keep thinking up craft projects to do with the kids, is to lure them away from gaming for a while… 😉
Your girls are so talented! What a great way to spend the first day of the New Year. The finished boards are beautiful. Great job!
Thanks Marilyn! 🙂 A good, lazy day, perfect for a little crafting.
Very clever and really nice! Your kids will need their own stall at the next Christmas market 🙂
The next step is to get them embroidering on felt. 😉
I love the looks of concentration! Your girls are treasures and their stitching is wonderful.
Thanks Lyn! 🙂 I was rather amazed that they could keep their concentration on this for so long. But as long as there are no other disturbances, and they enjoy the task/challenge at hand, they seem to be able to keep their focus for hours.
