Nu när jag har en massa färgglad ull att leka med passade jag på att tova några blommor. Om man vill tova flera lager av kronblad på en gång så måste man lägga något mellan de olika lagren av ull. Jag klippte ut runda former av golvunderläggsmaterial (se bild nedan), men det går att använda en stadig plastpåse, bubbelplast, eller vad man nu har till hands. Det kluriga med att klippa ett hål i mitten är att då tovas ullen i blommans mitt ihop, medan de olika lagren av kronblad hålls isär. Man lägger ut ett lager ull i taget, blöter ner med tvål och vatten, lägger på mellanlägget, och fortsätter på samma sätt med nästa lager ull. Jag gjorde tre lager i olika färger.
 

Börja med att gnugga lite i mitten så att de olika lagren av ull tovas ihop. Sedan kan man rulla blomman från olika håll. Om kronbladen i samma lager börjat tovas ihop kan man klippa isär dem. När allt hänger ihop tar man bort mellanläggen och fortsätter bearbeta ullen tills man är nöjd med tovningen och formen.  

Jag tovade även några blad till blomman, i två nyanser av grönt.   

Om man inte är nöjd med formen på kronbladen så kan man klippa till dem, men jag gillar den lite slumpmässiga och oregelbundna formen. Och några pärlor fastsydda i mitten är aldrig fel. Kanske blir det broscher av dessa, eller dekor på en tovad väska. Det återstå att se. Några färgglada tovade blommor får man väl alltid användning för.

Flowers felted with several layers of petals

Now that I have a selection of colourful wool to play with, I just had to felt some flowers. If you want to felt several layers of petals at once, you need a resist between the different layers of wool. With a hole in the centre of the resists, the wool in the centre of the flower gets felted together, while the petals in the different layers are kept apart. If the petals in the same layer get felted together, you can cut them apart with a pair if scissors, before you start fulling the felt. You can also trim the edge of the petals if you are not happy with the final shape. But I like the slightly random and wavy edges. It gives character to the flowers. And a couple of beads in the centre is never wrong. 

I have not decided what to do with these flowers yet. I may attach them to pins, to be used to fasten felted scarfs, or use them a decoration on felted bags. I am sure I will find some use for them.
