Efter ugglorna gav jag mig på en betydligt svårare utmaning – att tova en järv. Jag började med en skiss för att ha något att gå efter. Sedan gjorde jag en armering av ståltråd till benen, där öglor av ståltråd fick sticka ut genom ullen som klor. En järv måste ju ha klor, eller hur?! Och det här var den enklaste lösningen jag kunde komma på till en så liten figur.
Som utgångspunkt för kroppen och huvudet tovade jag tre bollar av ull. Sedan var det bara att fortsätta att bygga på med ull, och lägga till benen och en svans. I det här stadiet såg skapelsen mest ut som en långbent råtta. Jag undrar hur en riktig järv skulle se ut utan päls…? 
Slutligen var det dags för pälsen, vilket jag räknade med skulle dölja de värsta anatomiska felaktigheterna. Till det använde jag ull från Värmlandsfår och Härjedalsfår i olika bruna nyanser. Och till slut växte det fram en mer järvliknande varelse. 
Huvudet kunde ha varit större, men det var kul att testa att tova päls och bakifrån ser det ju nästan ut som järv. Visst ser ni rådjuret i bakgrunden på bilden nedan? Han blev inte särskilt orolig, men nu var det ju också en mycket liten järv han fick syn på. 😉

A needle felted wolverine
After the owls, I decided to try something much more challenging – to felt a wolverine. I started with a sketch to have something to follow. Then I made wire armatures for the legs, where I let loops of wire stick out of the wool to look like claws. A wolverine just has to have claws, and this was the easiest solution I could think of for such a small figure.
I felted three balls of wool to use as a base for the head and body. Then it was just a matter of adding more wool, and the legs and a tail, until it had the shape of… Well, to be honest, it looked mostly like a long-legged rat at this stage. I wonder what a real wolverine would look like without fur…?
Finally, I added fur, which I was counting on would hide at least some of the anatomical faults. And, eventually, it did turn into something resembling a wolverine. The head could have been larger, but it was fun to have a go at felting long fur, and it doesn’t look too far from a wolverine from behind. See the roe deer in the background in the photo. He didn’t look too worried, but then it’s only a very small wolverine. 😉

Awesome job! I really thought when I saw the last pic on FB before reading the blog you were posting a pic you had taken of a real wolverine! Great idea to use wire for the claws. I can’t wait to see what you do next!
Thanks Marilyn! I happened to have just the right fleeces for wolverine fur. That and the right camera angle helps a lot. 😉 It was fun to do a little needle-felting, but now that my wrist is gradually getting better, I’m hoping to get back to wet-felting again. 🙂

Marilyn – I assume you are hoping to get back to felting, and not longing for a pile of snow (I think you comment jumped to another thread). 😉 Is it a fleece from your sister’s sheep you have been preparing?
Unfortunately, I won’t be doing any big wet felting projects for a while. And no I’m not longing for snow, I just want normal spring weather. It’s cold here again, not cold enough for snow thank goodness. The fleece is still at the mill and won’t be ready until next month sometime. Yes, it’s one of my sisters sheep. There is no way with my back problems that I could clean it which is why it’s at the mill being cleaned. I think she may have another for me which will also go to the mill when I get it. That one I’ll have made into roving.
I may try your needle felted owl. Right now I’m just practicing crochet to stay busy. I miss playing in the water though. 🙂
